All the things you need to treat yourself to an easy eco-friendly facial

Facials are a great way to feel good about ourselves so here is everything you need for an organic and eco-friendly treat for your face!

Having a good skincare routine shouldn’t cost the earth, especially as it is such a mindful way to care for ourselves. I love exfoliating and applying moisturiser especially when I’ve been working long hours and being in the office or on location has dried out my skin.

Through my years of experimenting with skincare, I’ve found that sustainable tools are actually much more effective than disposable ones. I think a flannel is a much better cleanser than a wet wipe will ever be. Wet wipes are also awful for the environment, but the good news is that we don’t need to use them as there are so many alternatives available.

If you can carve out 30 minutes in your busy week for this easy six-step facial then your skin and mind will thank you. All you need to do is cleanse, tone, apply face mask, remove face mask, cleanse again and then moisturise.

These are my top recommended products for an ethical and sustainable beauty routine:

1. Konjac sponges

Konjac sponges are my absolute favourite sustainable beauty product. As the name suggests, they come from Japan and they are made from the konjac root. The texture is gorgeous and they’re so soft on your skin as well as being completely biodegradable. They’re particularly good for cleansing oily skin like mine and you can use them with cleanser, soap or just water. They last for about six weeks before they physically fall apart and you can compost them. This one comes in a cardboard box so it avoids plastic packaging.

2. Rose water toner

Once you’ve cleansed your face with your konjac sponge then it’s time to tone. There are quite a few organic toners in the market that use skin-friendly ingredients like rose water or cucumber. This one is good as it uses high quality ingredients and it comes in a glass bottle with a metal lid.

3. Face mask

Pink clay is famous for its healing properties and you can get your money’s worth from this jar as you mix the powder with water. Once you’ve made a paste, then you apply to your face and wait for it to harden. Clay is great for oily skin and it helps draw out the impurities. The packaging uses no plastic, so that’s another bonus.

4. Eco flannels

If regular flannels are too rough on your skin, then try these softer bamboo ones. They can even be used on babies. You can use them to cleanse, tone or remove face mask and they won’t leave your skin red raw.

5. Charcoal facial soap

Charcoal is another ingredient that is becoming an essential part of our beauty routine. Use this soap to clean off your mask to leave your skin looking fresh as charcoal helps to pull dirt out of your skin. These bars come without excess packaging so you just need to keep them dry in a tin or bowl.

6. Moisturiser

This moisturiser is made in the UK and uses skin soothing ingredients like coconut oil and aloe vera which are great for moisturising and soothing the skin after a facial. This is a great multi-purpose cream so it’s perfect for application just before bedtime so it can work on those pores as you sleep. It’s also completely organic and in a glass jar.

Enjoy your facial as it’s the perfect time for mindfulness and relaxation, plus you have glowing skin at the end of it – bliss!
