As 7 British comedy podcasts that will make you laugh out loud has been so popular with podcast-seekers, I’ve found even more funny British comedy for you to enjoy!
I’ve continued listening to many comedy podcasts while travelling on long bus journeys around Asia so this has given me even more comedy podcast inspiration.
Just like before, I have included different types of comedy podcasts, that feature a range of comedy guests and subjects that you’re sure to love and they’re all absolutely free so get those headphones in, and get listening!
1. Films to be buried with, with Brett Goldstein
Brett Goldstein is an actor and comedian who really loves watching films, and invites his film-loving comedy friends to join him and share the cinematic favourites that they’d take to the grave.
Brett Goldstein is a very lovely man and he interviews some great guests, posing questions such as what films are now problematic? Romantic? Funny? or just not good. As well as being funny and featuring hilarious people like Nish Kumar, Lolly Adefope, Mark Kermode and Jameela Jamil, there are also some great film recommendations in there.
Warning: May contain spoilers, but don’t worry – BG will let you know. There is also a lot of talk of death, but I find that in podcasts in general.
2. Anna and Ellie have issues
Comedian Ellie Taylor and Anna Whitehouse (aka Mother Pukka), have a Sunday night show on Heart that is repurposed into a podcast. It’s not a comedy podcast as such, but Ellie is a comedian and it is very funny. The duo discuss a variety of aspects of life, ranging from babies to relationships and everything in between.
They take calls and offer honest accounts of their own lives because there is nothing funnier than the unvarnished truth. It also feels like a girls night in which I like.
3. Teenage Mixtape with Joel Dommett and Steve Dunne
I’m a Celebrity’s Joel Dommett and comedian Steve Dunne got off to a strong start with this podcast by having the hilarious Emily Atack on the first episode. Joel and Steve are childhood friends and this podcast is all about the songs that got you through puberty back in the day.
As well as hearing hilariously relatable teenage anecdotage, prepare yourself for heady nostalgia of the songs that got you through your first kisses and heartbreak. Not to mention rediscovering some absolute tunes that you totally forget about.
4. Dear Joan and Jericha
If you only listen to one of my recommended podcasts (apart from Birthday Girls House Party of course!), then make it this one. Comedic actors Julia Davis and Vicki Pepperdine play abhorrent yet hilarious agony aunts while totally harpooning the concept of ‘life coaching’ from non-professionals. This satirical and fictional podcast will have you on the floor and it gets funnier as the series progresses.
Dear Joan and Jericha deservedly won Best Comedy Podcast at the British Podcast Awards in 2019 and while it currently only has one series, we’re all desperately hoping that there’ll be another.
5. Rule of Three
Comedy writers Jason Hazeley and Joel Morris talk to people who work in comedy about the comedy that they love. While this all seems a bit like naval-gazing, its quite fun to unpick what makes something funny, especially when it also happens to be a series that you really enjoy.
My personal favourite episode is the one where Aisling Bea discusses one of my all-time favourite shows – Father Ted. It’ll have you dusting off those all boxsets in no time (or finding them online…)
6. Pappy’s Flatshare
Comedians Ben Clark, Matthew Crosby and Tom Parry host a panel show based on sharing a flat and they hold different games every week. The three strands consist of Slamdown (games with guests), Beef Brothers: Cold Cuts (solving listener’s flatshare problems) and House Meeting (essentially a catch up between the three).
They have some great guests and it is guaranteed to make you think of all the times you lived in a shared house and the highs and lows of the flatshare.
7. My Dad Wrote A Porno
Jamie Morton, James Cooper and BBC Radio 1’s Alice Levine (she was also in Taskmaster) get together to read and dissect excerpts from Morton’s dad’s erotic fiction. This is a well-established podcast, but I thought it certainly deserved an honourable mention as there is something undeniably funny about badly-written porn.
In 2019, this podcast has been awarded the ‘Podcast Champion’ award at the British Podcast Awards as well as getting its own HBO special.
