Blogtober

I have been tagged by Claire St at Stapo’s Thrifty Life Hacks to take part in the Blogtober tag. The theme is autumn, so I’ll be answering questions all about this incredible season.

Heart of autumn

What’s your favourite autumnal scent?

I absolutely love the smell of blackberries, especially in perfume or in pies! When I’m outside I love the smell of woodlands, the smell of autumn leaves really takes me back to my childhood.

Do you prefer pumpkin pie or apple pie?

Apple pie for sure! I know pumpkin pie is really sweet and popular in the US, but I love the sharpness of apple. I had the best apple pie ever at The Apple Cafe in Ambleside in the Lake District and it was delicious.

What’s the one autumnal tradition that you have?

Going out for meals with friends as it’s so cosy and everyone is around before Christmas begins. Having people close to you really makes autumn such a special time.

What are you planning on dressing up as for Halloween?

I love looking on Pinterest for Halloween inspiration! As I’m a huge animal lover, I’ll probably dress up as a bat as I absolutely love them. I have one that likes to hunt in my garden so hopefully, it won’t fall in love with me when I’m wearing my outfit.

What are you most excited for about autumn?

I absolutely love it when the leaves turn brown. In the US there are people who travel to woodlands to see the colours change and they call it ‘leaf peeping‘. I understand why as autumn is such a beautiful season and I love photographing it. Watching wildlife at this time of year is also brilliant as flocks of ducks and geese arrive to feed in the UK.

What’s your favourite scary movie?

I really hate scary movies! I’d probably watch a funny one like The Evil Dead II so it wouldn’t give me nightmares. Something like What We Do in the Shadows would be good because it is also a comedy.

What is your favourite Halloween sweet treat?

I absolutely love chocolate-covered apples with sprinkles but I’m vegan now. Until they bring out a dairy-free version I’ll have jelly sweets instead! Luckily there are lots of vegan candy shops to choose from nowadays.

Favourite item that’s pumpkin spiced?

Definitely coffee! A pumpkin spiced oat milk latte would be so incredible right now.

What is your warmest autumnal memory?

I know everyone says this – but definitely pumpkin-carving and crafts! Even though I wasn’t that good at it back then, I loved seeing my creations all over the house. Reading a book in front of an open fire is super cosy too.

What is your favourite autumn must-have?

I think homemade Halloween decorations are an absolute must-have! Autumn wreaths are incredibly cute too. My top tip is to keep a Christmas wreath hoop and update it according to season. Spring wreaths are gorgeous as well. If you dry out plants slowly, they last for absolutely ages. Etsy is a great place to find autumn trends so I always look there for inspiration.
