My Top 5 Favourite Bubble Tea Combinations

Bubble tea is rightfully exploding worldwide right now, and that’s no surprise considering how delicious this drink can be.

The idea for this beverage originated in Taiwan, and it usually contains tapioca balls or popping bobas, but it can contain other tasty toppings.

As for the tea itself, it can be either milk tea or tea without any added milk. The milk itself can be condensed, powdered, fresh or plant-based. The teas can be anything from oolong or green to fruit teas and are usually served cold.

I have travelled the world, and I always try to find myself a bubble tea if I can, as well as try any available recipes!

It is this experience that has brought me to write this post, and share all of my favourite combos with you so that you can have the same great experiences with this chewy concoction.

These are my top 5 bubble tea combinations as a bubble tea lover:

1. Milk tea with black tapioca pearls

For me, (and many others), this is the absolute OG. Black tapioca pearls are not too sweet so they offset the traditional milk tea perfectly. It’s a great boost for when you’re on the go but it’s also easy to recreate at home. Just make sure that you have a big enough straw that will fit your tapioca balls!

2. Thai milk tea with brown sugar pearls

Anyone who has been to Thailand will tell you that traditional Thai tea (the deep orange one), is so good. It’s especially good with condensed milk as it adds extra sweetness so that the tea isn’t too bitter. Brown sugar pearls also help seal the deal as they are sweet but not overly so.

3. Honeydew melon milk tea with popping bobas

Melon milk tea is a milky green colour with an incredible flavour that doesn’t get the attention that it deserves in my opinion. Naturally, it’s very popular in Asia but less common in other countries. It’s not overly sweet so it goes perfectly with popping bobas, lychee is a great one as it is sweet and compliments the watermelon flavour.

4. Matcha milk tea with popping bobas

Green matcha can be quite bitter so it is lovely when tempered with a condensed or sweet plant-based milk like coconut or almond. As for the popping bobas, the sweeter the better! I recommend strawberry or cherry depending on how strong you would like the taste to be (cherry is a more powerful flavour).

5. Brown sugar bubble tea with pearls

Brown sugar bubble tea is another classic and with good reason! It can be found on street stalls and malls all over the land. It can be combined with any type of pearls as it is so versatile but brown sugar and black tapioca pearls are perfect with this. If you’re feeling more adventurous you could go for coffee-flavoured popping bobas.

I hope you get to try all of these delicious teas and that you love them as much as I do. If you have any more that you would like to add to the list then please share your recommendations in the comments below.
